Community Art at Community Playground Opening.
When you visit the playground on Saturday June 18th, while it has its Grand Opening, take a moment to look at some of the bunting hanging from the fences. You may find some of it familiar.
At the River Festival 2010 the Kilcullen Carer and Toddler Group asked the children, and carers, of the town to participate in a community art project. The goal was to express anticipation and gratitude to the playground committee. During the course of the day over 120 children, of all ages, completed little works on art on the bunting flags.
Can you find yours? Send us a photo of you standing with your little gem to info@kilcullentoddlergroup.com.
As they are so delightful we think you may want to take some of them home, so we will be offering them for sale, in smaller strings, in the near future. All funds will be used for the Kilcullen Community Playgroup campaign.
Please feel free to contact the Kilcullen Carer and Toddler Group if you have any queries or a particular section has caught you eye. Www.kilcullentoddlergroup.com

Jan 2011
Letter to The Bridge re the Community Playgroup.

We were extremely disappointed as parents to read that the grant for a new Community Childcare Centre for Kilcullen has been lost due to difficulties securing the lease on time, despite numberous extensions and deadlines being clearly identified. Needless to say, this Centre would have provided parents and children with an expanded high quality, affordable Childcare and Early Education facility within our community. The proposed location, beside the Astroturf pitch at the Community Center, would have been ideal, especially given the amount of ground works carried out in the area over the past few years.

We are grateful to all involved for pushing this project as far as it went. However, as a group of parents, we are left with many questions regarding the loss of the grant funding of €600,000, which had been allocated. The overriding question is why? Why was the lease not provided on time? Why was this huge investment that would have provided a great community-based service for the children of Kilcullen and increased employment in our community during the construction and on an ongoing basis, allowed to evaporate?

Further questions are who is responsible for not providing this lease on time? And will they answer to the parents of Kilcullen as to their reasons?

We would like to take this opportunity to express our solidarity with the Community Playgroup and commend them on their sterling work for the community over the past 30 years.

We believe that these questions need to be considered on a community-wide level so that any future issues may be addressed for the benefit of all members of our community.

Yours etc.

Lyn B. Worrall

Chairperson, Kilcullen Community Carer and Toddler Group

October 2010
As you will know we have supported the Kilcullen Playground Committee as much as we can for the past year and their efforts are at the point of completion now. The payground design has been published, here, and your comments are welcome.

Summer Update
The toddler group had a very busy couple of months. The playgroup has gone from strength to strength, with a consistent level of numbers - approx 20 families each week, with a mixture of moms, dads, carers, grans and even grandads coming along with the little ones.
Many of the babes-in arms last summer are now walking and new babies have replaced them.
We produced our first guide for parents in Kilcullen, ' It takes a village..' as a supplement to The Bridge in June and hope to add this to the website in the coming weeks.
A very successful 'Introduction to First Aid' course was held in June and it was food for thought and helpful for all. More to follow, please email if you are interested in attending.
